The urgent trial production task fell to the tool workshop where Wang Chonglun of the Machinery Factory was located. The clamp is a part that is easy to wear on the rock drill. Although the volume is not as big as a fist, the production process is complicated. It needs to go through 12 processing procedures such as turning, inserting, milling, carburizing, and quenching, and the precision is very high. At that time, there was no domestic manufacturer that could produce such spare parts.
Due to the unbalanced equipment in the tool workshop and the insufficient capacity of the slotting machine, a large number of parts are backlogged, which directly affects the next process. Wang Chonglun was so impatient that he wanted to create a new tool and put it on the planer, so that the planer could do the work of slotting. Finally, one night, when he was sorting out technical materials, he pulled out a live photo of a planer instead of a milling machine processing a tie rod, and a sudden inspiration came up with a bold idea. Half a month later, Wang Chonglun showed the special tool tire drawing in front of the workshop leaders: the tool tire shell is like a motor, composed of more than 40 parts, the clip and the anti-nut can be fixed in the sleeve and rotated 360 degrees. , select the machining angle arbitrarily. It turns out that the slot machine can only process one workpiece at a time, and the workpiece is placed in the tool tire, and the planer can be cut in stacks, which is as convenient as wearing candied haws. The workshop director and technicians were full of praise for Wang Chonglun's wonderful idea after reading the drawings.
With the support of leaders and workers, a tool tire with a length of 500 mm and a diameter of 200 mm was placed on Wang Chonglun's planer a few days later. On the day of the test drive, hundreds of people came to watch. When the first batch of workpieces was finished, the timekeeper announced that it took 45 minutes to machine a single clamp. What is shocking is that in the past, more than 40 parts of the rock drill were processed, and a set of special fixtures had to be made for each part to be processed, but this tool tire can replace all of them. After some brainstorming, this unique tool tire created by Wang Chonglun was named "Universal Tool Tire". The use of the "universal tool tire" to process the clamp has improved the work efficiency by more than 7 times, and the processed parts are all first-class products, completing the production task of rock drill parts on schedule. By the end of 1953, Wang Chonglun had created a miracle of completing four years of work in one year. Wang Chonglun is also known as "the person who walks ahead of time".
